About Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is the ancient yogic science of deep relaxation and guided meditation based in Tantric Yoga. Sometimes called the “yogic sleep or sleep of the Yogi.” Performed in Savasana pose with the support of blankets, Yoga Nidra is a journey into a transformational state between wakefulness and deep sleep that releases tensions accumulated deep in every layer of our being, allowing unconscious barriers to be removed and promoting holistic wellbeing.
This ancient practice is an expression of the 5th and 6th limbs of the Yogic Path outlined by Patanjali and uses guided meditation to withdraw awareness from the external world and move into deeper layers of consciousness. Incredibly refreshing on a physical level, 40 minutes of Yoga Nidra has been shown to offer similar benefits as 3hrs of deep sleep. But the nourishment and wellness benefits go much deeper as well. In Yoga Nidra, brainwaves move from the alert and logical Beta to the deeply relaxed Alpha and even subconscious Theta waves. In these Alpha and Theta realms, that Beta wave inner relentless doer and nagging critic is left behind, and you can enjoy an effortless state of being and explore the landscape of intuition, deep inspiration, profound creativity, and special insight.
