Yoga Nidra is the ancient yogic science of deep relaxation and guided meditation, sometimes called “yogic sleep” or “sleep of the Yogi.” Typically performed in Savasana pose lying on your back with the support of blankets for maximum comfort, Yoga Nidra is a journey into a transformational state between wakefulness and deep sleep that releases tensions accumulated deep in every layer of our being, allowing unconscious barriers to be removed and transformational and holistic healing to occur.

Incredibly refreshing on a physical level, 40 minutes of Yoga Nidra can offer similar benefits as 3-4hrs of deep, restful sleep.  But the nourishment and restoration goes much deeper as well.  In Yoga Nidra, brainwaves move from the alert and logical Beta to the deeply relaxed Alpha and even subconscious Theta waves.  In these Alpha and Theta states, that Beta wave inner relentless doer and inner critic is left behind, and you can enjoy an effortless state of being and explore the landscape of intuition, deep inspiration, profound creativity, and special insight.

Join Sagel for Meditation 101: Learn to Meditate on Saturday Oct 21st, 1:00pm at Greener Postures Yoga. Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years as a way to reduce anxiety and live with a greater sense of tranquility and wholeness. Anyone can learn to do this simple, powerful practice and receive its many benefits — here’s a chance to learn how to get started! Meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce stress in the body, lower blood pressure, and prevent the effects of aging in the brain. This transformative practice helps us to live with more compassion in our hearts and more clarity in our mind, and to create and enjoy more harmonious relationships.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • What meditation is … and isn’t
  • How it benefits you physically, mentally, and emotionally
  • How to build a comfortable meditation posture
  • Basic breathing exercises you can use anywhere
  • Simple meditations you can do in 3 minutes a day
  • Ways to create a sustainable home meditation practice
  • How to avoid common pitfalls and cultivate compassion for yourself
  • Basic Concentration & Lovingkindness meditations (Samatha)
  • Intro to Insight (Vipassana) meditation

Join us to learn the basics of getting started, avoiding common pitfalls, and tips for creating a practical, sustainable home practice. There will be question and answer time as well as take home resources to support your continued practice.

Everyone is welcome, no experience necessary!

Dress comfortably. Props are available for your use at the studio free of charge with the exception of mats which are optional and available for rent for $1.  You’re also welcome to bring your own meditation cushion, mat, etc.
